Just like us humans, pets also feel the heat on these hot summer days. So what can we do to look after our furry friends in the heat.
Here are some tips to keep your pets cool on hot days:
- Make sure your pets have plenty of water
It’s common sense but you should check your pets water bowls regularly on a hot day to ensure they have plenty of water to stay hydrated.
- Provide shade if your pets are outside
Ideally on a hot day its best to keep your pets indoors but if they are outside pets it’s important they have an area where they can get out of the direct sun.
- Help them cool off
Whether it’s a clam shell pool in the backyard, a damp towel or putting the fan on. Your pets will thank you for the relief from the heat.
- Avoid walks or car trips
Avoid walking your pets and never leave your pet in the car. The hot ground can do serious damage to paws and it only takes minutes for an animal to suffer an agonising death in a hot car.
- Use pet safe sun cream
Protect your dog’s skin from sunburn by applying sun cream on parts that are exposed, such as the nose and tips of their ears.
