Lifestyle Village or a Retirement Village - The Differences

When it comes to choosing a retirement community, there are many options available to seniors. Two of the most popular options are lifestyle villages and retirement villages. While both offer similar amenities and services, there are important differences to consider when making a decision.

What is a Lifestyle Village?

A lifestyle village (or in our case, a Lifestyle Community) is a type of community that is designed for active Over 50s, Semi-Retired and Retirees who want to maintain their independence and continue to live an active lifestyle. These villages often offer a range of recreational and social activities, as well as a variety of amenities such as swimming pools, tennis courts, and centralise Clubhouses with features like gyms & cinemas.

Lifestyle villages are often gated communities, which provide security and privacy for residents and are particularly popular with single females for these benefits. Additionally, many lifestyle villages offer landscaping services, so residents don't have to worry about upkeep.

What is a Retirement Village?

A retirement village is a type of retirement community that is specifically designed for older seniors who are looking for a more relaxed lifestyle and have already retired from work. These villages also offer a range of amenities like swimming pools and recreational activities, but they tend to be more focused on providing a comfortable and relaxed environment for residents.

Retirement villages may also offer additional services such as meal plans, housekeeping, health care services and provided transportation. Additionally, many retirement villages offer assisted living options for residents who need extra help with activities of daily living.

Key Differences

The key difference between lifestyle villages and retirement villages is the level of activity and independence offered. Lifestyle villages (and Lifestyle Communities®) are geared towards active seniors who want to maintain their independence and continue to live an active lifestyle, while retirement villages are designed for seniors who are looking to (or have to) slow down a little more.

The Right Choice for You

When it comes to choosing a retirement community, the right option will depend on your individual needs and preferences. If you're an active Over 50 who wants to maintain your independence and continue to live an active lifestyle, a lifestyle community may be the right choice for you. However, if you're looking for a more relaxed lifestyle with additional services and support for older seniors, a retirement village may be a better option.

It's important to consider your current and future needs, as well as your budget, when making a decision. It's also a good idea to visit different retirement and Lifestyle communities and talk to current residents to get a better understanding of what each community has to offer.
