Best walking trails in ocean grove

Renowned for its seaside village ambience and spectacular coastal views, Ocean Grove is a true gem along the Bellarine Peninsula. Beyond the sandy beaches and blue skies, there are many walking trails to engage the muscles, liven the senses and breath-in the clean air.

Get out and about on some of these top walking trails. Be sure to pack a bottle full of water, some healthy snacks for the road and some keen eyes to keep a lookout for the unique Australian wildlife. You’re bound to have a great day out around Ocean Grove with these trails.


The Bellarine Rail Trail

Perhaps the most iconic walk of the region, you can tackle all 32 kilometres starting from Geelong if you’re keen! Otherwise, you can meet-up with the trail along different points including at Ocean Grove. The walk is a well-paved pathway and offers detours to some cafes and wineries when a break is in order.


Ocean Grove Nature Reserve

Here there are wetlands housing native animals and birds. There are many peaceful trails that weave throughout the reserve. It is a great day out when the sun is shining and the wildlife are roaming about. Be sure to have the camera ready for this one!


Barwon River walk

On this track, you can loop around the beach and river, offering the best of all scenery. Starting at the mouth of the Barwon Heads river, the trail walks up towards Ocean Grove. You can follow this trail all the way into Geelong and through Buckley Falls if you’re feeling up for a whole day of walking. Otherwise, stop by one of the secluded fishing spots around Ocean Grove.


Beach loop walk

Starting in the fifth car park along the Barwon Heads-Ocean Grove Road, this walk takes you all around the coastline. The nature trail exhibits the best of the coast and river shoreline. There are public toilets along the way. Dogs are welcome on this trail too and there is an off-leash area designated.
